Keeping your baby or toddler safe in the home is something all parents focus on. Regardless of the age of your child, there are a myriad of ways they may hurt themselves around the typical home. While you can try and restrict your child’s access to just certain parts of the home, there are other tips you can use to make your home a safe haven for your little one.
Electronics and Electricity
Make sure your electronic devices, cords, and other related items remain out of your child’s reach. Install flat outlet covers on all unused outlets in your home, and use box type plug covers to protect toddlers from the outlets where you have things plugged in. You should also arrange your furniture so that it blocks access to outlets, when possible. Make sure you take steps to ensure little fingers can get into electric heaters, portable fans, or other dangerous devices.
Invest in Ongoing Monitoring
It isn’t possible for you to be with your child all the time. However, when it comes to safety, supervision is a must. This is where ongoing surveillance comes in. Modern home security systems offer an array of features that make life easier for you and safer for your baby or toddler. Some of these features include:
- Video surveillance inside and outside the home
- Smart door locks
- Door and window alarms
It is these features that are now offered with the typical home security system that will help you keep your child or toddler safe, even when you have to go into another room (like the bathroom) for a few minutes.
If you don’t have a security system installed in your home, now is the time to invest in one. You will find this can be a real-life saver and help reduce some of the stress and anxiety you have about the possibility of your little one suffering an injury.
