January’s Residential Security Tip: Winter Maintenance for Your Home Security System

Keeping your home secure is something that should be done year round, but it’s especially important in the winter months as extreme temperature changes, snow and ice can damage not only electronics, but such things as doors and windows.  By following a few simple steps, you can be sure your home security system is in tip-top shape.  This is especially important if you are one of those homeowners who spend most of the winter out of town

The first thing you should do is test your security system. If you decide to check it yourself, be sure to consult your owner’s manual so that there are no false alarms.  You should also alert your monitoring company that you are testing the system in case you do accidently trigger a false alarm. If you would rather not test the system yourself, call us and we will be happy to test your system for you..

Check your windows and doors to be sure they are closing and locking properly. Moisture can set in and cause warping. Also check your door and window locks to ensure they are locking properly. If need be, repair or replace doors and windows that are not closing securely and replace malfunctioning locks with anti-theft locks.

Protect your home, your family and your valuables by performing this routine maintenance when winter rolls around.  A few minutes of prevention can eliminate hours of stress.
